We used to do this at school when we were counting down the practices until the weekend. Seven days until the end of this hard and focused training. The rest of the work needs to be done in these seven days...because once monday hits...its rest for the body...and even more rest for the mind.
We are down to ONE. However, I have a feeling that this one....is going to be the hardest.
The one exciting thing about this one day---verses day two and three----I am so excited to get out the door.
Friday: Long Run/ Swim was great. I had a minor stumble about 1.5mi in...but after that- it was one of the best runs I've ever had. Jm was so great joining me for the first 10 and supporting me (via bicycle) for the last loop. I get a little emotional thinking back to the run- and how grateful I am to have Jm there with me. He does a really good job at keeping me not only calm...but focused. I can tell at times he doesn't know what to say---but always seems to do the right thing- even if keeping quiet didn't really make my mind calm down at the moment--looking back now I'm glad he let me make the mental decisions.
Almost done :)
After some lunch and coffee--I decided to join Channel Cats for the last hour of their practice. After Todd stating---"oh good you're just in time for the main set...and its free today!" I took a trip to the bathroom---amped myself up to turn back around and hop in the pool. Thank goodness for those dedicated girls (TCCC). They make a hard workout fun. Not only fun---but totally possible. Even after the long aerobic set...we were surprised with a 200 free for time---and I didn't have a panic attack! It's amazing what you're capable of when you keep calm and keep personal expectations at bay.
Saturday: Long Bike/ Short Swim was a long day. I am sooo happy though to say I hit my training goal for 2012 for the bike! I guess It's time to revamp my goals for the year! So excited to say---I PR'ed my 40k and half Iron bike in the first miles of my last 100 mile ride. (Granted----I have never raced a 40k....I still PRed and well I guess all the 70.3 distances were 58 miles ---verses 56--I don't care a PR is a PR. haha).
The start of the ride didn't quite go as planned. My bike computer battery died...as soon as I put it on my bike...and my other bike computer wasn't working....great! Looking back now---maybe I should ride without the numbers more often. It would have been nice to read all my numbers post-ride...but...what can you do...oh well :)
Some things I needed from the ride: 3 Powergels are NOT enough calories for a 5-6 hour ride. I packed 3 because Jm packed 3....uhhh. haha. Our second (of our ~30 mi loop) was not a pretty one. Getting to the gas station took a big effort....and we refueled on Coke, Redbull, a kingsize Payday and lots of water.
pit stop! hot stuff!
We finished our third loop and figured we had about 20 miles to go. At the beginning of the ride we drove out of the traffic to start our ride...and after some discussion we figured instead of doing a couple out and backs---we would just ride home to get as many miles in as possible in one direction. I was pretty positive my car keys were at the house so we could just drive out later and get the car.
Well.....my car keys were in the car...about 11 miles out of town. Damnit.
Lets just say----it was a good mental challenge.
I was for sure paying for our dinner after the ride...
yumyumyum
So today: 4 hour ride---hoping to spend a lot of time on hills--5 mi run.
One hour at a time. One step at a time.
One day.
